Enter into Enchantment, at Babylonia Fitzroy.

Babylonia restaurant, bar and Shisha lounge is the new kid on the block in Melbourne’s popular Fitzroy, and a hard one to miss at that, with it’s freshly painted bright orange facade smiling widely at Smith St passers by. What you can’t see however, is the enchanting hidden oasis, awaiting those who venture past the bar and journey beyond the palms.

Joint owners and business partners Geoffrey Sage and Prawin John Peter set out to create a laid back, luscious environment that differentiates itself from Melbourne’s ‘fast paced concrete jungle’. With it’s delightfully tranquil atmosphere, the hidden oasis is an outdoor garden courtyard where guests can relax and enjoy moreish food and drinks, morning to night.

The menu is an experience of its own, serving a collision of contemporary flavours and well-loved traditional dishes of Middle Eastern and European nations. In need of a hearty crowd pleaser? Look no further than their signature Grand Platter, made with char grilled chicken, lamb shish and koftas, quail pieces and a refreshing accompaniment of dips, salad and rice. Perfect for sharing over a cocktail or two like their house favourite Pisco Sour, made with Pisco, lime juice and egg white.

Boasting an equally impressive Vegan and Vegetarian offering, the Vegan Tagine Moussaka, made with slow-cooked roasted capsicum, potatoes and eggplant, topped with a mildly spicy tomato sauce is contrasted by lighter choices such as the Fattoush Salad, made with cucumber chunks, tomatoes, Spanish onion and sumac, lightly drizzled with fresh pomegranate dressing.

Partnering with hospitality veteran design agency BrandWorks Studio, the Babylonia boys have created a vibrant yet cosy interior that features both booth and stand alone arrangements, plush with contrasting textural fabrics and soft-seating you won't want to leave. The outdoor courtyard oasis features a tranquil water feature amongst vibrant foliage, inspired by the hanging gardens of Babylon. An idyllic setting for groups, both inside and out.

We also hear that a secluded upstairs Shisha bar is currently under construction. With a private bar and an intimate fireplace backdrop for the approaching cooler months, all we can say is... watch this space!
